Community Engagement Coordinator
Dr. Stokes received her Ed.D. degree in Dance Education from Temple University in Philadelphia in 2001, and previously received both B.A. and M.A. degrees in Physical Education/Dance Education at the University of Southern California. As a graduate assistant and then faculty member at the University of Southern California, she taught dance technique as well as dance appreciation and dance history courses. For five years she taught dance in the public schools in Charlotte, N.C. In her doctoral research study, LEAPing Toward Change: A Portrait of Teacher-Artist Collaborative Instructional Practice in the Elementary Classroom, Dr. Stokes examined the ways in which teachers and dance and drama artists collaboratively developed interdisciplinary curricula. From 1997 to 2005, she taught Creative Dance and Pre-Ballet classes at the Salt Creek Ballet. Dr. Stokes also currently serves as adjunct faculty in the Humanities department at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
